Laura describes her work as seeking to convey the experience of her subject. Her source of inspiration is typically an unexpected accent in set up or subject. She deeply desires to have fun while enjoying the complexities of life. This is what painting is like… fun yet complex. These focused reflections are felt through her paintings and drawings.

Laura’s passion is also teaching fundamentals and artistic approaches to all levels of students. Check out her online learning opportunities.

artistic Background

At the beginning of Laura’s studies at the university in 2005, she felt inspired by theoretical teaching and philosophy of color and realities but also stifled by the determination of the program to discourage studying realism. Four years later, she was fortunate to meet an artist incorporating traditional atelier training into her painting classes. Due to this introduction, Laura packed her bags and spent the duration of 2012 as a drawing student at the Florence Academy of Art. Laura gained visual training in drawing from life using charcoal and graphite. Laura now translates this aesthetic and energy into her work regardless of the chosen process. In Florence, she enjoyed figure drawing, master copies of Charles Bargue, and anatomical studies.  Her work is inspired by nature, synchronicities, and personally resonating imagery, archetypes, or objects. She enjoys balancing observation and abstraction as the phenomenon we all experience as art.

Laura is also a passionate Kinesiologist. She added a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and Kinematics to her skill set. In Seattle, she ran her holistic wellness business up until the pandemic. Laura came to wellness work out of needing healing. Her work in that field inspired a return to art post-pandemic. She can now incorporate a biomechanical and energetic approach to creating anatomical work. Her kinesiology business specializes in working with people in pain, laurahausler.com.
